Knight Frank has just started marketing the luxury villa in Provence that was home to artist Louis le Brocquy for nearly 40 years. Le Brocquy is considered by many to be Ireland’s greatest ever painter and was married to another notable artist, Anne Madden. The couple lived in the villa from the 1960s.
The four-bedroom house in Carros, which provides nearly 5,000 sq ft of accommodation, was sold by the artistic couple in 2000 to an anonymous British buyer. Mr. Le Brocquy died in Dublin in 2012.
The property has an Italian influenced design and still retains the artists’ largely unaltered studio, where splashes of paint and photos of the couple working dot the walls, and shelves are crowded with pots of brushes and sculptors’ knives. One of the walls bears a mural painted by Ms Madden in the late 1990s.
Fredrik Lilloe, a partner at Estate Net, which is part of the Knight Frank network in the south of France, says a one-bedroom stone guesthouse could be sold separately from the rest of the property. Both require some refurbishment.
