The Asociación De Promotores Inmobiliarios De La Región De Murcia (Apirm), the tourist authority for the popular Spanish region, has announced five key strategies to boost visitor numbers and property sales to overseas buyers.

Around 15% of property sales in Murcia in 2014 went to buyers from outside Spain, around 2% higher than the national average, but Apirm believes introducing the right policies can further boost the region’s appeal to foreign visitors and property buyers.

Addressing an annual residential tourism symposium, the organisation identified the major factors to be addressed:

  • Cutting bureaucracy;
  • More concerted promotion of the Costa Cálida and Murcia at property exhibitions;
  • Targeting ‘Golden Visa’ real estate investors from Russia and China;
  • Creating sustainable urban regeneration in tourist areas;
  • Promoting “out-of-season” golf tourism

Minister of development, public works and planning, Francisco Barnabas, says: “The holiday homes industry is emerging from the crisis sooner than other sectors of our economy, and the proof is that it has not stopped growing since 2010. Now we must make available to our developers the means to make their work more effective and to maximise the enormous potential of this field.”
