Budget carrier Norwegian is starting domestic flights in Spain from the mainland to the Canary Islands this winter.
The company is starting a number of services, with fares starting from €39.50 one-way, which will be good news for homeowners in Spain looking for tourist rentals. The new routes are Madrid to Gran Canaria and Tenerife North; Barcelona to Gran Canaria, Tenerife North and Fuerteventura; and Málaga to Gran Canaria and Tenerife South.
Capacity is 10,416 seats a week, totalling nearly a quarter of a million over the winter season. Over the past four years, the number of flights to the islands has dropped by 16.4%, or about 1.4million seats, says the airline.
Norwegian claims that it will be the first airline to offer free wi-fi connection on board Spanish domestic flights.
