More than 30,000 new tourist ‘seats’ to the Portuguese airport of Faro were created with winter routes in 2014/15, says the president of the national Tourism Board.
According to João Cotrim de Figueiredo, these new routes have enhanced existing connections to countries such as the UK, Ireland and Germany and are among tourism authorities’ priorities to combat address seasonality in the Algarve. The aim is to attract more tourists to the region over during the historically quieter winter months – great news for those looking to maximise returns on their second home in the Algarve.
The tourism chief was speaking at the presentation of a survey conducted on tourism by Global Media. Among the survey’s other findings was the fact that 84% of foreign tourists were extremely satisfied with Portugal’s beache and that more than three-quarters of respondents said they had visited a beach in the country over the past three years.
