The municipality of Mojácar in southern Spain is targeting visitors from the UK as it seeks to promote its tourist image.
Mojácar Town Hall is in the middle of a tourism campaign, which is running to the end of June, where it is promoting the benefits of its region to holidaymakers in London, Manchester, Cardiff, and Glasgow. The campaign is based on Facebook, through which thousands of users can view the promotional video “Mojácar, Making Memories”.
Tourism bosses in the Andalucian locality have chosen those major cities as the focus of their promotion as they have direct flights to Almeria. Launched on 1 May, the campaign video was seen by nearly 20,000 people in the first ten days and has generated increased traffic on www.mojacar.es and the Mojácar tourism Facebook page.
The Mojácar authorities have recently started to make similar promotional efforts in Ireland and Northern Spain as well as a roadshow aimed at travel agents in 12 major Spanish cities.
The councillor for tourism of Mojácar, Emmanuel Agüero, says: “This campaign on Facebook, using the tourism video as a marketing tool, aims to strengthen our brand image and promote Mojácar as a great destination to a very important target market. The United Kingdom has many direct flights to our local airport and therefore has many thousands of potential visitors to Mojácar.”
